Conversion factors for volatile acids
Risposta
The factor to convert a volatile acids test result from acetic to another volatile acid is based on the ratio of the molecular weights. The most common to wastewater are acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid treatment plants, their molecular weights are 60, 74, and 88.1 respectively. To convert from acetic acid to butyric acid, you would multiply the acetic acid result by 1.45 (which is the molecular weight ratio of butyric acid to acetic acid i.e. 88.1 divided by 60). For other volatile acids, the same calculation can be performed, substituting for the respective molecular weight.
